Janice Tolbert PhillipsJanice Tolbert Phillips is the recipient of the 2011 Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni Service Award presented by the Delta State University Alumni Association.  The award is presented annually to recognize outstanding service and contributions to Delta State University by an alumna/alumnus. Phillips will be honored during the Alumni Awards and Gala Dinner on Friday, November 4,  at 7 p.m. in the Walter Sillers Coliseum as part of Delta State’s 2011 Homecoming festivities.

A native of Coldwater, Phillips received her bachelor’s degree in education from Delta State University in 1978.  As a student, Phillips discovered the thrill of rallying the Statesmen football team to victory with classmates and future lifelong friends. Memories of many games spent cheering on the Statesmen motivated Phillips to reconnect with fellow alumni.  In 2009 she began networking with fellow alumni and coordinated a very successful Class of the 1970s Delta State reunion that took place earlier this year in Ridgeland.

Phillips has enjoyed a 29-year career in the U.S. Postal Service in Jackson where she is a customer service assistant and certified U.S. passport processor. She and Ralph, her husband of 33 years, reside in Madison. The Phillips have two children, Nuenzo Phillips and Melissa Phillips Williams, and a 4-year-old granddaughter, Caleigh Phillips, of Greenwood.
