Students in the Indie Music Entrepreneurship class from the Delta Music Institute will present a commercial music showcase on Tuesday, November 29 at 7 p.m. in the Green Room at Young-Mauldin Cafeteria on the campus of Delta State University. Three up-and-coming musicians will showcase their unique musical styles for a class project supporting local music and musicians. The event is free and open to all ages.
Singer/songwriter Ben Shaman, hip-hop artist B. Dot Jack, and chillwave practitioner Argiflex, will each showcase a selection of original songs as the culmination of a semester-long student entrepreneurship project based out of the Delta Music Institute. This showcase will serve as a platform to elevate local music and also provide an project-based learning experience for students preparing for a career in the music industry.
Interdisciplinary Studies major Brandy Brasfield comments, “This class has challenged us to think outside the box in how a showcase is put together. Some people think it’s just making a phone call, but it involves so much more than that.”
