Scope and Content:
This collection consists of the papers of the late Sam Long, a Bolivar County planter, who provided leadership in the formation of the Bolivar County Community Action Program in 1965. The program was highly controversial at the time but through the efforts of Mr. Long who served as its Chairman, the program brought cooperation between the races and the business-like handling of millions of dollars of taxpayer money. The collection includes news clippings of the Bolivar County Poverty Program which also began in 1965.
