What Does the GIT Center Do?
The Geospatial Information Technologies (GIT) Center advances the use of geospatial technologies through research, innovation, workforce development, and professional engagement. Using tools such as geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, global positioning systems (GPS), and spatial analytics, the Center supports projects that help organizations better understand geographic data and make informed decisions.
The Center collaborates with government agencies, private industry, nonprofit organizations, and academic partners on initiatives that address real-world challenges. Through these partnerships, the GIT Center contributes to research, service, and training efforts that extend beyond the university community.
The GIT Center also supports Delta State University’s academic undergraduate, graduate, and certificate offerings in Geospatial Analysis and Intelligence, providing students with opportunities to apply classroom knowledge through hands-on projects and professional experiences.
Real-World Experience
The GIT Center provides students with opportunities to gain experience that extends beyond traditional coursework. Through involvement in applied projects, research initiatives, and professional collaborations, students have the opportunity to work with the same technologies, data, and workflows used throughout the geospatial industry.
These experiences help students strengthen technical skills, develop problem-solving abilities, and build professional connections before graduation. By participating in real-world projects, students gain practical insights that complement their academic studies and help prepare them for careers in geospatial analysis, intelligence, emergency management, environmental studies, and related fields.
The combination of classroom instruction and experiential learning creates a unique environment where students can develop both the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving profession.
