Navigating with Course Icons

You may navigate through the course by using buttons on the left menu, hyperlinks within the course, and by clicking on the course icons at the top. The course icons will help you as you navigate through the course information and resource pages. See the table below for an explanation of each icon.

If you do not see the tab or icon you are looking for, or get “stuck” in your course, return to the home page and use the icons at the top of the page. Home Icon: Designed to return to the course home page
 Get Started Icon: Links to a page providing information on how to begin the course
 Modules Icon: Leads to the full list of course modules; return to a specific module
 Assignments Icon: Leads to the full list of course assignments and details
 Instructor Icon: Link to the Instructor page with a more detailed professor profile
 Learner Support Icon: Link to a page with University support resources and policies

What type of browser do I need for Canvas?

Canvas supports the last two versions of every browser release. The Office of Information Technology recommends the latest versions of  Mozilla Firefox (PCs) and Safari (MACs). You should update to the newest version of whatever browser you are using as well as the most up-to-date Flash plug-in or you will experience technical issues with your course.

Information concerning the current browser and connection information can be found on Canvas’s support site .

What are the minimum computer skills required for this course?

Each student must be able to:

  1. Navigate the Internet with a web browser.
  2. Use email and send attachments proficiently.
  3. Download and install plug-ins.
  4. Create files and folders.
  5. Use a word processing program such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs.
  6. Save word processing documents as doc, docx, and pdf.

 

Microsoft 365 Education suite is free to current Delta State University students, faculty and staff. Click the link above to download and find additional information about the software.

 

Zoom Web Conferencing is now available to all faculty and students.

If your instructor uses Zoom Web Conferencing, in addition to the above requirements, you will also need access to a webcam and microphone.

Something on the site isn’t working, who do I contact?

Click the Help button in the left global navigation menu to contact the 24-hour campus Help Desk at helpdesk@deltastate.edu.

I don’t see my course(s) in Canvas.

Click on Courses in the global navigation menu (left, green) and then click the All Courses link. Current courses will be listed at the top. If the course is listed but is inaccessible this means that the instructor has not published the course and you will need to contact the instructor. If the course is not listed in Courses please call the Registrar (662-846-4040) to confirm registration.

When I go to access my quiz or assignment it says “Unauthorized,” who do I contact?

Contact the instructor via the Inbox.

I need special accommodations for online testing and to access course materials, who can help me?

The Office of Disability Services can be reached at (662) 846-4690. They will assist with providing approved accommodations’ requests, as well as provide other services for you such as tutoring and counseling.

I’m falling behind on my coursework and may need some extra time in the course, what should I do?
