Graduate Assistantships

Graduate Assistantships

Graduate Assistantships (GA-ship) offer graduate students the opportunity to work for Delta State University. These opportunities provide students an excellent chance to gain experience in their chosen field while continuing their graduate education. Most assistantships offer free tuition, and some pay a small monthly stipend. GA-ships are competitive as a GA-ship will require an application process, a minimum grade point average, and typically an interview.

Statesmen Connect, an online portal managed by the Office of Career Services, allows all DSU students to participate in most of the office’s services by providing information relating to career fairs, special events, career announcements, and job/ internship national and local postings. Select the button below to register an account or login to Statesmen Connect. Be sure to search for GA-ship position titles containing “GA,” “Graduate Assistantship,” or “GA-ship” all of which denote a Graduate Assistantship opening.

Once a graduate student is selected for a position with a University department, through the general application or Statesmen Connect portal, a GA-ship Contract must be completed by both parties. The completed GA-ship Contract is due to the Office of Graduate Studies* by the 1st Thursday of each term (summer terms) or 2nd Friday of the term (fall/spring).

*The student is responsible for completing all necessary tax documents with the DSU Payroll Department before student is eligible to begin work.

Graduate Assistants are required to complete monthly timesheets. All timesheets must be signed by the student and supervisor before returned to the Office of Graduate Studies. An end-of-Assistantship Evaluation form is available, but not required.
