Biography
Dr. Robert F. Austin is a geospatial industry professional with experience in the academic sector as a geography professor, in local government as a GIS manager and in the private sector as a GIS consultant and manager. He was a co-founder in 1994 of Lambda Tech International, a firm that applied photogrammetry and digital image acquisition to street centerline mapping. His service to the profession includes membership on the Boards of Directors of the Geospatial Information and Technology Association (which he also served as President) and of the GIS Certification Institute. In 2010, he was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior to serve two terms on the National Geospatial Advisory Committee; during his second three-year term her served as Chair of the NGAC. He is the lead author of the textbook GIS for Critical Infrastructure Protection. His international experience includes GIS project work and instruction in Antigua, Australia, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Malaysia, Russia and Ukraine and business development work in China and Thailand.
