Delta State’s Center for Culture and Learning provided an introduction to the cultural heritage of the Delta to the governing board and staff of the Mississippi Humanities Council (MHC). At a recent three day meeting in the Mississippi Delta, the MHC reviewed its diverse programs, held business meetings, and learned about the Delta. Director of the Delta Center Luther Brown currently serves Vice Chair of the MHC.

MHC visitors enjoyed the music and showmanship of Bill “Howl-N-Madd” Perry and his Blues Band at Po’ Monkey’s Lounge.  The MHC provides funding for festivals, workshops and events throughout the state.  It hosts family reading programs, funds oral histories, sponsors Smithsonian Museum on Main Street traveling exhibits, supports and honors humanities teachers, and engages in special programs that focus attention on literature, foodways, the arts, history, and other aspects of the humanities.
