Astronomy Guest Speaker: Professor Fran Bagenal

The Department of Physical Sciences welcomes  Dr. Fran Bagenal, Professor of Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics at the University of Colorado, to campus this Friday, April 25, 2014.

 

Dr. Bagenal studies the magnetic fields of planets, the interactions of plasmas with atmospheres, and magnetospheric processes.  She has participated in a number of NASA’s planetary  exploration missions, including the Voyager missions to Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.  Dr. Bagenal is taking part in NASA’s Juno mission to Jupiter,  launched in 2011 and scheduled to arrive at our solar system’s largest planet in 2016.  She is currently a Co-Investigator on NASA’s New Horizons mission to the outer Solar System. New Horizons is set to encounter Pluto and Charon in July of 2015.

 

 

Dr. Bagenal will be presenting three lectures during the day Friday.  All presentations are open to faculty, staff, students and the public.  Everyone is cordially invited!
