Breast Education Early-detection Project and Cleveland’s Walgreens to Celebrate National Women’s Health Week

By April 30, 2013General

The Delta State University Center for Community and Economic Development’s Breast Education and Early–detection Project and Walgreen’s of Cleveland will host a free health screening event on May 13 from 8am-2pm at the United Family Life Center in Cleveland.  The event will provide women in the community the opportunity to get blood pressure, cholesterol, clinical breast exams, BMI, and many more free health screenings and health information.  The event titled “I know my Normal. Do you know Yours?” is in celebration of National Women’s Health Week 2013.

National Women’s Health Week is a nationwide initiative that calls attention to the importance of women’s health. National Women’s Health Week empowers women to take small, manageable steps for longer, healthier, happier lives. The steps include encouraging women to visit a health care professional to receive regular checkups and preventive screenings; get active; eat healthy; pay attention to their mental health, including managing stress and getting enough sleep; and avoid unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking and not wearing a seatbelt or bicycle helmet.

During the week, families, health organizations, businesses, communities, the government and individuals will come together to raise awareness of women’s health and support women to take simple steps for a better lifestyle.

We are celebrating the health and well-being of all women.  We will provide health and preventive screenings to ensure that we continue to promote healthy communities in every aspect.

Women are often the caregivers for their families and, as a result, sometimes fail to make their own health a priority. National Women’s Health Week helps remind women to visit the doctor, make sure their screenings are up-to-date, get active and take time for their health. National Women’s Health Week kicks off on Mother’s Day, May 12, and will be celebrated until May 18, 2013. National Women’s Checkup Day, a day on which women across the country are urged to visit their health care professional, will be held on May 13.
