BPAC Summer PLUS Camp to Offer Arts Classes Digitally

The Bologna Performing Arts Center at Delta State University is looking forward to offering virtual arts classes at this year’s PLUS Camp. The weeklong day camp, part of the Janice Wyatt Mississippi Summer Arts Institute, will transition to online courses the week of July 6-10 and will be offered at a reduced rate of $50 per camper. Camp tuition includes packets with several age-appropriate arts projects and instructions, as well as links to virtual classes led by returning PLUS Camp instructors.

PLUS Camp 2020 will be hosted on an alternative platform from previous years, but the BPAC is bringing back many familiar faces. Kathy Hull, PLUS Camp musical director of more than 20 years, is thrilled to be returning to the program through virtual sessions: “I’m so excited to participate in a new version of PLUS Camp this year and to see the campers again! Even though it’s going to look different, we’re still going to put on a great show!”

This year’s camp theme is “Seize the Day!” Hull said that with all of the uncertainty in the current climate, she wanted to make sure campers had something to look forward to and get excited about. The digital transition will energize campers to go out and look for new opportunities even with social distancing measures still in place.

In addition to the scheduled performing arts classes, students will receive packets and links to pre-recorded video instructions for completing several visual arts projects with PLUS Camp instructors. Campers will work with multiple mediums to learn more about color theory, line, and shape, as well as many other artistic concepts.

PLUS Camp applications are available online at bolognapac.com/education, or through the BPAC ticketing website. The BPAC encourages parents and guardians to share at-home photos and videos of their children’s PLUS Camp projects and performances so that they can share them to their social media pages. To submit photos or video, please email the arts education director at cholder@deltastate.edu.

For campers who have already registered, please check your emails or contact the arts education office at 662-846-4844 for information on camp exchange rates.

The Janice Wyatt Mississippi Summer Arts Institute is made possible by Delta Regional Foundation, Entergy Mississippi, the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi, the American Legion Delta Post 1776, the Crosstie Arts and Jazz Festival, and the EPHFIC Women’s Club.
