Record Registration for Delta State’s Sixth Annual Tech Savvy Conference for 6th-9th Grade Girls

A record number 267 sixth through ninth grade girls registered for Delta State University’s sixth annual Tech Savvy Conference, which took place on March 29, 2019.

One reason for the turnout, the role models who presented at the event, said Dr. Glendscene Williams, Tech Savvy Conference committee chair and an associate professor of finance at Delta State. They included female engineers from Baxter Healthcare Corporation; Walgreens pharmacist Ann Franklin; physical therapist Tracey Phillips; Kathy Bryant, RN, marketing coordinator at North Sunflower Medical Center in Ruleville; Dr. Erica Balthrop of the Woman’s Clinic of Clarksdale; Dr. Marketta Blue of the Delta Health Center in Mound Bayou; and certified public accountant Ashley Stewart.

The Tech Savvy Conference was developed by the American Association of University Women to encourage more young girls to seek careers in STEM.

STEM professionals across numerous fields presented at the event.
