Limited spaces remain for Summer Arts Institute

2013 Arts Campers participate in a watercolor painting course.

The 2014 Janice Wyatt Mississippi Summer Arts Institute at the Bologna Performing Arts Center has limited spaces left.

The two-week residential camp for ages 12-18, and PLUS Camp, a one-week day camp for ages 5-12 has a limited enrollment. Interested young artists are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible to secure a place at the Institute. Applications are available at the Bologna Performing Arts Center or for download online, www.bolognapac.com.

The goal of the Mississippi Summer Arts Institute is to encourage young artists to begin or continue their pursuits in the fine and performing arts. Through MSAI, participants are given the opportunity to further develop an established craft, as well as explore new, creative art forms.

From June 8-21, kids from ages 12-18 will stay on the Delta State campus and take classes in various art forms with Delta State professors and professional teaching artists during the day.  The students will participate in fun activities at night. Courses are offered in dance, literary arts, music, theater and visual arts. MSAI ends with a visual arts exhibition and literary arts reading, as well as a final performance which demonstrates the talents of the campers.

Young artists ages 5-12 are invited to attend PLUS Camp from July 14-19.  PLUS camp is a high-energy day camp which focuses on singing, dancing, puppetry, storytelling and prop and set design.  A final performance on July 19 showcases the hard work and dedication of campers.

Young artists who are interested in cultivating artistic abilities in a positive and encouraging setting are invited to spend the summer at the Mississippi Summer Arts Institute. For more information call Whitney Cummins, Arts Education Coordinator, at 662-846-4844.

2013 PLUS Campers present a song and dance review during their final performance.
