The Delta State Alumni Association recently hosted a visit from the Dr. Alan Barton’s senior sociology class. Students in Barton’s “Integrative Seminar in the Social Sciences” visit the Alumni Association each semester and have been doing so for the past seven years.
“All of the graduating seniors in the Division of Social Sciences and History take SSC 499, and one of the highlights each semester is our visit to the Alumni House. Jeffrey Farris explains to the students how they can stay in touch with classmates and with Delta State University through the Alumni Association,” said Barton. “Students get a copy of the excellent Delta State Magazine, tickets to Pig Pickin’, decals for their cars, and other goodies, and we always spend a few minutes looking at the historic photos on the wall of the lobby. Sometimes students can pick out relatives in the old photos. Everyone has a good time and the students go home motivated to stay connected to DSU after they graduate.”
Director of Alumni Affairs Jeffrey Farris spoke with the students about the experience they will have after they graduate.
“Alumni awareness is an important part of a graduating senior’s experience,” said Farris. “I applaud Dr. Barton for keeping the National Alumni Association in front of his class each semester.”
