Delta State’s Bellipanni receives FedEx internship

By January 26, 2012General

James BellipanniDelta State junior James Bellipanni, an accountancy major from Belzoni, has been selected to serve as an intern for the FedEx Corporation. Every semester FedEx travels to several universities in the region including Delta State, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Jackson State, University of Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, University of Alabama, and LSU to recruit students to serve as interns in the internal auditing department. Students who apply must meet certain academic criteria and go through several phases of interviews and callbacks before being selected. Approximately 100 students apply every year for the internship with only three to four being selected.

Bellipanni prepared for the application process by researching the FedEx Corporation with the assistance of Delta State’s Office of Career Services.  His initial interview for the internship was on the Delta State campus; he then completed a series of interviews at the FedEx headquarters in Memphis.  A week later he was notified that he and three other students had been selected for the internship. “Ever since I’ve been at Delta State, I’ve seen FedEx come recruit every semester. I never imagined trying to get the internship,” said  Bellipanni. “Now that I have received the opportunity, it is quite a feeling knowing that the path you take through college is often unpredictable. I feel prepared because my instructors at Delta State have done a good job of teaching real world experiences in the accounting environment.”

Bellipanni began the internship earlier this month, joining  fellow intern Dustin Henry, a Delta State senior in accountancy from Greenville.

FedEx’s student internships offer interns the opportunity to take on some of the same responsibilities of senior auditors and audit advisers. Interns are treated as staff accountants and are introduced to audit customers as associate auditors. Each intern is assigned a mentor, works in a team on small projects, and eventually works on larger individual projects. Students that serve as interns have a significant chance of being hired by FedEx after they graduate.
