The Eastside Project documents the rich legacy of East Side High School (ESHS), a vital educational and cultural institution founded in 1957 on the Eastside of Cleveland, Mississippi. Though ESHS was consolidated into Cleveland Central High School in 2017, its stories remain central to understanding the broader history of education and community in the Mississippi Delta.
This initiative explores the deep connections between ESHS, the Eastside community, and local movements for social change. In partnership with Delta State University, which houses ESHS memorabilia, the project expands archival resources and promotes public access to these histories.
By preserving oral histories, student traditions, and community memories, the Eastside Project supports the Mississippi Delta National heritage Area’s mission to document and celebrate the region’s past through education, preservation, and engagement.
