Each spring, Greek Life kicks off with Bid Day at Delta State, the last day of recruitment before new members join sorority chapters.
Waiting in anticipation after receiving their bid letters Monday, the new members rushed the DSU quad to join their fellow sisters, and celebrate growth of the sorority community.
“Each year, Bid Day brings new memories that these young ladies will never forget,” said Michael Lipford, director of Student Development. “Whether it’s running home to an unfamiliar group of people who you already feel such a special bond to, meeting a bunch of wonderful new people, or jumping up and down with joy as you see the faces of your new sisters, Bid Day is unforgettable. After what can be considered a very stressful decision for some, you’re finally comforted by running home to your new family where you belong.”
This was Lipford’s first experience as advisor to the Panhellenic Council, allowing him to appreciate the affair even more.
“Hearing the loud screams and cheers as they opened their bid invitations — realizing the sorority they wanted, wanted them as well — is truly heartwarming,” he added. “It’s new energy being breathed into Greek Life.”
