Academic advisors and admissions’ counselors use the test results, along with transcripts, goals, and interests, to determine college course selection and placement. Student performance on the ACCUPLACER is evaluated in conjunction with the other assessments of the student\u2019s academic readiness for university instruction.<\/p>\n Students may need to take the ACCUPLACER test if they:<\/p>\n In an effort to be proactive regarding the need to safeguard our university community, face-to-face ACCUPLACER testing will be suspended until further notice. Students who plan to attend DSU may take the ACCUPLACER using Examity online proctoring service. The fee to test using Examity is $35.<\/p>\n To register for the ACCUPLACER, contact the Office of Admissions:<\/p>\n Office of Admissions Entering freshman admitted to DSU with scores of 16 or below on the ACT in reading and\/or English subtests are required to enroll in corequisite courses in their deficient subject areas during their first semester. English and Math courses are credit-bearing, gateway courses that satisfy general education requirements and may include an additional one-credit hour lab. The Reading course is a non credit-bearing course.<\/p>\n Any ACT subtest score which is 16 or below in English and\/or Reading and 19 or below in Math is considered deficient. Students admitted to DSU with two or more deficient ACT subtest area scores must also enroll in the year-long Academic Support classes, CED 098 in the fall and CED 099 in the spring. The curriculum for these classes includes instruction in goal setting, time management, study skills, and reading comprehension. Additional time is spent on career coaching, and any personal issues college freshmen may encounter. The program assists students with the transition to college-level work and equip them with the skills and tools necessary for the achievement of their academic, career, and life goals.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/tab][tab icon_family=”none” title=”Summer Developmental” id=”1771251509462-5″ tab_id=”1771251509463-0″][vc_column_text]\n Students who do not meet regular DSU undergraduate admissions criteria are eligible to enroll in the Summer Developmental Program as an alternate route to the admission process. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to continue their college education at any State of Mississippi Institute of Higher Learning\u00a0university in the fall term.<\/p>\n June – July<\/p>\n Students interested in enrolling in the Summer Developmental Program should contact the Student Success center at 662-846-4887.<\/p>\n To hold\u00a0the program at the DSU Campus, a minimum of 10 students must be registered by April 15, at 5pm.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Financial aid is limited for Mississippi high school graduates attending the Mississippi Summer Developmental Program.
