Conflict of Interest

POLICY STATEMENT


Delta State University (DSU) employees are required by Mississippi law to abide by conflict of interest and ethical standards as public employees. All DSU employees have a legal and ethical obligation to comply with applicable ethics and laws regarding employee conflicts of interest. Specifically, it is unethical for an employee to use his/her position at DSU to obtain any sort of financial gain for his/herself or a family member other than the employee’s compensation.

PROCEDURES and RESPONSIBILITIES


A conflict of interest would include, but is not limited to an employee’s participation directly or indirectly in procurement when:

  1. An employee or any member of the employee’s immediate family has a financial interest pertaining to the purchase;
  2. A business or organization in which the employee or any member of the employee’s immediate family has a financial interest pertaining to the purchase;
  3. Any other person, business, or organization with whom the employee or any member of the employee’s immediate family is negotiating or has an arrangement concerning prospective employment is involved in the purchase.
  4. An employee purchasing goods or services from DSU at an auction or sale when the goods or services are not offered to the general public at a uniform price.

STATUS

All policies as published will be noted as “active” unless awaiting external approval (for example, by IHL). In the case of a policy awaiting such approval, the status shall be noted as “inactive.”
