Scholastic Honors
POLICY STATEMENT |
Delta State University students receive academic honors based on the criteria described in this policy.
DEFINITIONS |
President’s List: Honor awarded each fall and spring semester to undergraduate students who have earned a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.8 or higher for the semester with no grade below a B.
Dean’s List: Honor awarded each fall and spring semester to undergraduate students who have earned a GPA of 3.5 to 3.79 for the semester.
Graduation with Honors Diplomas: DSU recognizes academic achievement with awards termed Honor Diploma (4-year Honors) and the Doyce Stallings Mitchell Honor Diploma (2-year Honors).
Latin Honors: Honor awarded and given special recognition at graduation for the following DSU GPAs: Summa Cum Laude, 3.90-4.00; Magna Cum Laude, 3.75-3.89; Cum Laude, 3.50-3.74.
PROCEDURES and RESPONSIBILITIES |
President’s List
To qualify for the President’s List, a student must have a GPA of 3.8 or higher for the semester with no grade below a B and must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 academic hours unless they are engaged in student teaching.
Dean’s List
To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must have a GPA of 3.5 to 3.79 for the semester and must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 academic hours unless they are engaged in student teaching.
Graduation with Honor Diplomas
To qualify for the Honor Diploma (4-year honors), a student must have earned at least 105 semester hours of academic credits at DSU with a GPA of 4.00.
To qualify for the Doyce Stallings Mitchell Honor Diploma (2-year honors), a student must have earned at least 60 semester hours of academic credits at DSU with the GPA of 4.00.
At each commencement ceremony, the students who are eligible for these awards will be announced. Credit hours completed plus the credit hours to be earned during the semester of graduation will be used to determine minimum credit hour eligibility. GPA eligibility for the announcement will be based on earned GPA at end of semester prior to graduation.
The Honor Diploma and Doyce Stallings Mitchell Honors Diploma will be awarded and recorded on the final student transcript based on earned credit hours and GPA calculations after all grades have been posted.
Latin Honors
To qualify for Latin Honors, a student must have earned at least 60 semester hours of academic credits at DSU with the following DSU GPAs: Summa Cum Laude, 3.90-4.00; Magna Cum Laude, 3.75-3.89; Cum Laude, 3.50-3.74.
