CLEVELAND, Miss. \u2014<\/strong> Delta State University\u2019s Student Government Association President Haley Rooks has been accepted for the 2024 incoming class at University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson. Rooks is a Math major, minoring in Music, from Jackson.<\/p>\n

Rooks said, \u201cI was so excited to learn that I was accepted into medical school. Medical school has been a goal of mine since I was a child, and I am so thankful for the continuous support from my family, friends, and professors. I am thankful to Delta State for helping me achieve my life goal of becoming a physician. This university has given me so many opportunities to make this dream a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n

UMMC is Mississippi\u2019s only academic health science center. UMMC includes seven health science schools: medicine, nursing, dentistry, health related professions, graduate studies, population health, and pharmacy. Enrollment in all programs is more than 3,000 students. According to their website, UMMC\u2019s three-part mission is to improve the lives of Mississippians by educating tomorrow’s health care professionals, by conducting health sciences research, and by providing cutting-edge patient care.<\/p>\n

Associate Professor of Biology Dr. Tanya K. McKinney said, \u201cHaley is an amazing young woman who is a difference-maker! We wish her all the best as she continues to grow as a student and person.\u201d<\/p>\n
