Lexie Johnson<\/p><\/div>\n

CLEVELAND, Miss. \u2014<\/strong> The Delta State University Department of Music will present Piper Gillam and Lexie Johnson in their senior flute recitals on Thursday, November 2nd, at 1:40 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Bologna Performing Arts Center.<\/p>\n

Johnson, a senior flute major from Batesville, and Gillam, a senior flute major from Dayton, Ohio both study with Dr. Shelley Collins, professor of music at Delta State University.<\/p>\n

Both students have performed in the DSU Wind Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Marching Band and World Percussion Ensemble. Gillam also performed with the Brass Ensemble and has served as section leader of the Wind Ensemble and Marching Band. She has served as president of the Gamma Zeta Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, received the James Donald Cooper Band Scholarship, and has performed in the DSU Honors Recital.<\/p>\n

Johnson has performed in the Symphonic Band, and<\/p>\n

Piper Gillam<\/p><\/div>\n

has served as<\/p>\n

alumni secretary, recording secretary, and corresponding secretary<\/p>\n

for the Gamma Zeta chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon. She has been a recipient of the Jeff Ross Capwell Scholarship, the James Donald<\/p>\n

Cooper Band Scholarship, and is a member of the music honor society Pi Kappa Lambda. She was also selected to perform in the DSU Honors Recital.<\/p>\n

Professor of Music Shelley Collins said, \u201cThe senior recital serves as a capstone project for students majoring in music education. It is<\/p>\n

the culmination of at least four years of individual practice, weekly flute lessons, rehearsals with collaborating musicians, and researching and writing about each work on the program.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson and Gillam will perform works by Carl Reinecke, Ian Clarke, Frank Martin, Katherine Hoover, Gary Schocker, Nicole Chamberlain, and Allison Loggins-Hull.\u00a0Performing with both students is collaborative pianist Dr. Kumiko Shimizu.
