Smith School of Nursing at Delta State University, recently spoke to the Cleveland Rotary Club. Bingham was invited by attorney John Alexander.<\/p>\n

The Robert E. Smith School of Nursing plays a pivotal role in the university\u2019s academic mission to serve the Delta\u2019s contiguous counties and the state\u2019s workforce needs. \u201cWe are preparing our future nursing students for the workforce by allowing them to learn and practice in realistic environments,\u201d said Bingham. To accomplish these goals, the University is expanding and renovating its nursing buildings. This facility improvement will provide more physical space so more students can be admitted and will enhance various areas to provide a better teaching\/learning environment. This project will require a \u201cphased\u201d approach to continue the educational and operational endeavors throughout the academic year.<\/p>\n

There will be three phases of building projects. Phase 1- building new simulation center, skills lab, classroom, lounge area and conference lab. Phase 2 \u2013 renovating existing skills\/simulation lab areas. Phase 3 \u2013 renovating existing computer lab to enlarge the seating capacity to 80 students. Also, there are four primary funding areas \u2013 recruitment efforts, program & revitalization, reality-based learning and scholarships.<\/p>\n

Bingham said, \u201cTo support this project the Robert E. Smith School of Nursing is promoting an $8M campaign. We are asking for those who are interested in supporting the project to become engaged by being advocates for the nursing program, by providing contacts of those who can support the campaign or by contributing financially.\u201d<\/p>\n
