Ragan so believes in the dedication of nurses that he has created the Ann Taylor Ragan Memorial Nursing Scholarship at Delta State University in memory of his mother. Dr. Ragan said, \u201cMy mother was a dedicated nurse, who was instrumental in my decision to pursue a career in dentistry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mrs. Ragan was a graduate of the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis and worked in Bolivar County for 50 years. She was passionate about helping others and was devoted to her patients.<\/p>\n

Dean of Nursing Dr. Vicki Bingham said, \u201cWe are honored to have a scholarship established in her name. Future students will benefit from this donation, to provide assistance in earning a nursing degree.\u201d<\/p>\n

Recipients must be enrolled as a student in the Robert E. Smith School of Nursing, be from Bolivar County, have a 3.5 GPA or higher and display an exemplary record of a passion for others through humanitarian activities (ex: Church mission trip, volunteer at the hospital, work with Habitat for Humanity).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Mississippi Delta is experiencing a nursing shortage,\u201d said Dr. Bingham. \u201cScholarships such as this may help students in the decision to stay in the area and address its needs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis scholarship is a way to pave the way forward for the next generation of Nurses,\u201d added Dr. Ragan. \u201cIf you want to touch the future, touch a life. I hope this helps someone along the way.\u201d<\/p>\n
