CLEVELAND, Miss.\u2014<\/strong> Delta State University\u2019s Roy L. and Clara Belle Wiley Planetarium will \u201claunch-off\u201d the first of 10 public shows as part of its Fall 2022 season on Sept. 17.<\/p>\n

The free, live shows will be hosted at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wiley Planetarium, located on Delta State\u2019s campus.<\/p>\n

Attendees will learn about what\u2019s visible in the sky this week and see the very first images taken by NASA\u2019s James Webb Space Telescope, as explained by Wiley Planetarium Director and Astrophysicist Dr. Maria Weber.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Webb is the largest and most complex space science telescope ever built \u2013 the premier observatory for the next decade. This international mission, led by NASA in partnership with the European and Canadian space agencies, launched on Dec. 25, 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Webb telescope provides a new view of the cosmos and pushes the field of astronomy into a new era. Since its launch, the telescope has already observed the deep universe in the infrared, peering inside dust clouds to study light from distant parts of the universe for the very first time \u2013 the first galaxies that formed about 13.5 billion years ago. It has also explored distant worlds in other solar systems, as well as objects in our own solar system.
