Offered through Delta State\u2019s College of Arts and Sciences, the new MFA in Studio Art (Low Residency) is a two-year, 60-credit-hour, summer intensive program.<\/p>\n

The unique program is designed to serve artists who are motivated and want an innovative approach to graduate study through independent studio practice with a flexible structure.<\/p>\n

As one of the few low residency programs in the country, students are only required to be on campus for a few weeks during the Summer and will be able to complete work independently in their home studios anywhere in the world during the Fall and Spring semesters.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt Delta State, we are very excited to offer this new MFA in Studio Art,\u201d said Dr. Ellen Green, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. \u201cWe feel the flexibility of the program will make it easier for our artists to complete their degree. Mississippi is famous for its art, and we want to continue that tradition.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Chet Oguz, chair of the Art Department at Delta State, students enrolled in the program will gather as a cohort to complete 4-week summer intensives and complete online courses during Spring and Fall semesters.<\/p>\n

While working in their home studios, students will meet regularly with approved artist mentors located near the vicinity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe MFA in Studio Art (Low Residency) program is a great opportunity for students and art teachers interested in pursuing a graduate degree without having to take a leave of absence from their jobs or families,\u201d said Oguz.<\/p>\n

The innovative program will also offer four new technology courses relevant to artists working across all disciplines, providing and expanding knowledge in filming, marketing, advertising, 3D modeling & printing and operating CNC Laser Engraver.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe program is designed to encourage students to explore new ways and to incorporate digital media as a meaningful tool for their creative pursuits,\u201d said Oguz.<\/p>\n

Graduates of the programs will be able to work in artistic professions and pursue careers as art directors for for-profit and nonprofit organizations, develop design work for ad agencies and marketing departments, run private graphic firms and art studios, work for art galleries and build a freelance business. Graduates with an MFA in Studio Art degree will also be credentialed to teach at the college level.<\/p>\n
