“I could not find a better elementary education program than the one at Delta State University,” said Christy Gonzalez, the 2008 recipient of the Eloise Stratton Walker Endowed Scholarship, which was established at Delta State University in 1998. <\/p>\n

The scholarship honors Mrs. Eloise Stratton Walker, <\/span>of Cleveland, who served as an associate professor and coordinator of the undergraduate elementary education program at Delta State from 1970 to 1993.  <\/p>\n

<\/span>Gonzalez is a senior elementary education major from Cleveland. She plans to graduate in December 2008 and begin teaching in the Delta area. <\/p>\n

<\/span>Walker recently visited with Gonzalez, and encouraged her to pursue a Master’s degree. Walker also continues to work in the education field as a consultant. <\/p>\n

<\/span>Dr. Leslie Griffin, Dean of the College of Education at Delta State University, spoke highly of Walker.  <\/p>\n

<\/span>“Eloise Walker set the bar for high standards and exemplary teachings while a member of the elementary education faculty at Delta State,” Griffin said. “We are indeed fortunate to have endowed scholarships established in the honor of such committed and outstanding faculty so that we can continue to attract and prepare quality teachers. The total costs for one year of an on campus student are $10,300, and scholarships like this enable students to continue their education.”<\/p>\n
