During Delta State\u2019s Spring 2022 Student Government Association elections, students were given the opportunity to choose from three card designs submitted by Delta State Graphic Design majors.<\/p>\n

Winning the election was a design submitted by Lucia Chacon, a senior graphic design major from Guatemala.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very thankful for having my design chosen by the students to be the new Okra Kard,\u201d said Chacon. \u201cIt feels great to know I am leaving a legacy for Delta State and students will carry my design everywhere they go.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Director of Financial Reporting Kelvin Davis, the idea for an updated design came when the Office of Student Business Services began pursuing an upgrade to its current Okra Kard system.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe decided that we wanted to make sure the students were involved in selecting a new design as we upgrade our card system to one that will give us the functionality to incorporate different designs,\u201d said Davis. \u201cWe thought it would be the perfect opportunity to let our graphic design students put their skills to use.\u201d<\/p>\n

Director of Student Business Services Mikhail Collins formed a taskforce who helped to narrow down the seven submitted designs to the top 3 before allowing students to vote on their favorite.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything we do is student-centered, so we wanted to give students the opportunity to participate in the process of developing our new card design,\u201d explained Collins. \u201cSince it\u2019s something that they will be carrying around, we wanted to be sure they had a voice in the process.\u201d<\/p>\n

All of the students participating in the competition will receive prizes, with Chacon taking home the grand prize including a pair of AirPods, a $50 Barnes and Noble gift card, $25 Okra Green Anywhere, a Pepsi drawstring bag and a DSU Yeti cup.<\/p>\n
