The event is free and open to the general public. It will be streamed live on the Delta State Department of Music Facebook page.<\/p>\n
Fosheim, who serves as a professor and chair of Delta State\u2019s Department of Music, said the program will celebrate the vast contributions of women in music.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe variety and depth of these compositions have been a challenge and an inspiration to me as a performer,\u201d said Fosheim. \u201cThe compositions represent nearly one hundred years of compositional styles.\u201d<\/p>\n
The featured work on the program is the\u00a0Sonata for Piano\u00a0by Florence Price which won first prize in the 1932 Wanamaker music contest.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a work of mammoth proportions,\u201d said Fosheim about the piece. \u201cIt represents a solid, classically-based structure with tinges of jazz and popular idioms recognizable in the harmonies and rhythms.\u201d<\/p>\n
Also on the program are works by French composer Lili Boulanger and American composers Amy Beach and Margaret Bonds.<\/p>\n
The program will close with\u00a0Designs in Blue Shadows,\u00a0a work dedicated to the victims of Hurricane Katrina and the city of New Orleans by Barbara Jazwinski, professor of Composition at Loyola University.<\/p>\n
