Delta State senior Isabella Escobedo of Grenada, Miss., was recently selected as the 2022 Congressional Fellow. Escobedo is a History major with a 4.0 GPA.<\/p>\n

Delta State, in collaboration with Delta Council and Staplcotn, annually sponsors the Delta State Congressional Fellows Program, which offers an experiential educational opportunity for one outstanding DSU student each year.<\/p>\n

As a congressional fellow, Escobedo will be spending the Spring 2022 semester in Washington, D.C. interning on Capitol Hill for U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi.<\/p>\n

Much like previous Delta State fellows, Escobedo will receive first-hand experience with the systems of Congress while gaining valuable insight on public policy issues affecting regions like the Mississippi Delta.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very grateful for this opportunity; I have dreamed of learning how the United States government works since I was a kid. This will be an extraordinary opportunity for me to learn more about Congressional processes and public policy,\u201d said Escobedo.<\/p>\n

An involved student leader on campus, Escobedo serves on the Student Government Association, currently reigning over the Student House of Representatives. She is a tutor in the Writing Center and a scholar in the Honors Program at Delta State.\u00a0 She is also a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society and Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society.<\/p>\n

Delta State Congressional Fellows work with the staff to help provide constituent services, track legislation and develop knowledge of policy concerns.<\/p>\n

As a fellow, Escobedo plans on using her creativity and leadership skills to serve as an advocate for Mississippi constituents.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am looking forward to learning about the legislative process and national decision-making work,\u201d said Escobedo.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am also excited about getting to work directly with leaders in our nation to meet the needs and concerns of constituents.\u201d<\/p>\n
