Jasmine Evans<\/p><\/div>\n

Jasmine Evans, a psychology major from Greenville, Miss., and Synethia Mathews, a Computer Information Systems & Marketing dual major from West Point, Miss., recently placed first in the \u201cEmerging Business Issues\u201d competition during PBL\u2019s National Leadership Conference.<\/p>\n

In addition, Delta State\u2019s Alexis Rover (Elementary Education) placed second in the \u201cBusiness Presentation\u201d and seventh in the \u201cJob Interview\u201d events; Zac Bozeman (Master of Business Administration) placed fifth in the \u201cRetail Management\u201d and ninth in the \u201cJustice Administration events; and Evans also placed seventh in the \u201cSales Presentation\u201d event.<\/p>\n

“I can never say enough about our PBL students’ dedication and commitment to representing Delta State with excellence. I\u2019m so proud to be connected to a group of students who not only excel in competitions on a state level but are also recognized on a national level amongst thousands of other college students,\u201d said Dr. Tomeka Harbin, DSU\u2019s PBL adviser, and chair and associate professor of management in the College of Business and Aviation.<\/p>\n

The annual PBL National Leadership Conference connects middle school, high school and collegiate level students through competitive events, leadership sessions and networking.\u00a0 This year\u2019s conference, held virtually from the headquarters in Reston, Va., spanned June 24-27 and June 29-July 2.<\/p>\n

Synethia Mathews<\/p><\/div>\n

The competitions took place via Zoom, objective testing and video submissions. Evans and Mathews competed by way of a Zoom presentation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe experience this year was different because we weren\u2019t face-to-face. We also weren\u2019t able to prepare face-to-face so that came with minor challenges, but we overcame those challenges by putting our thoughts and ideas together and through the use of technology,\u201d shared Evans.<\/p>\n

The duo was thrilled to learn they\u2019d snagged the top spot.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Jasmine and I finished our live presentation for Emerging Business Issues, I was confident that we would at least be in the Top 5 this year. I was thrilled when I saw we won first place; our hard work paid off!\u201d said Mathews.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was ecstatic and grateful when we were named winners because I knew all of the hard work and dedication we\u2019d devoted to ensuring that our presentation was great,\u201d added Evans.<\/p>\n
