The collaboration continued Tuesday afternoon as University and local community members joined together to formally celebrate DSU\u2019s newest facility addition with a ribbon-cutting.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The event, hosted at the site of the house, began with a brief ceremony, which included a welcome from Laura Howell, executive director of the Bologna Performing Arts Center, and invocations from Reverends Kent Bowlds of Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church and James Breland, retired minister of DSU\u2019s Baptist Student Union.<\/p>\n<p>DSU Vice President of Finance and Administration\/Chief Financial Officer Jamie Rutledge then gave an overview of the project. The ceremony concluded with University and local officials joining DSU President William N. LaForge and First Lady Nancy LaForge for the ribbon cutting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very grateful for everyone for coming today and supporting this project,\u201d said President LaForge. \u201cThis is the University house; it is &#8216;the people\u2019s home\u2019. We\u2019ll live here, our successors will live here, but forevermore this will be the place for the University to enjoy. As part of the tour, University representatives were stationed in each room, providing guests with a detailed description of the room\u2019s use as well as information about the featured id=\"caption-attachment-87811\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Guests enjoyed guided tours of DSU&#8217;s new President&#8217;s Home during the event.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to Rutledge, the project was initiated due to the need and vision of a new home for the University president.<\/p>\n<p>The two-story structure, designed by Eley\/Barkley Engineering and Architecture, mimics the Italian architectural language found throughout Delta State\u2019s campus and is situated in the exact location of the former President\u2019s Home.<\/p>\n<p>The lead contractor for the project was Roy Collins Construction and the interior design was completed by Nancy Price Interior Designs.<\/p>\n<p>The project was financed through local banks, including Cleveland State Bank, BankPlus, Guaranty Bank and Trust, Planters Bank and Renasant Bank.<\/p>\n<p>The new Delta State President\u2019s Home features a unique design combining the environment of a personal residence with the versatility of a public event space.<\/p>\n<p>With over 6,000 square-feet, five bedrooms, the house is anchored by a centralized great room that will be utilized for public and private events.<\/p>\n<div id=\"caption-attachment-87812\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">DSU&#8217;s new President&#8217;s Home is anchored by a centralized great room that will be utilized for the public and private events.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe design accommodated the current president and his family, as well as future incoming University presidents, thus positioning the University for sustainable flexibility,\u201d explained Rutledge.<\/p>\n<p>The house features Viking kitchen appliances and an outdoor grill donated by Viking Range, a fully supplied catering kitchen supplied by Sodexo and a state-of-the-art sound system donated by Chris Collins.<\/p>\n<p>Custom artwork is displayed throughout the home, with many of the pieces supplied by the DSU Art Department, which has one of the largest and most recognizable collections in the South East.<\/p>\n<p>According to Rutledge, more than 20 local and regional subcontractors and vendors were utilized to complete the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident LaForge stressed to our contractor, Chris Collins, the importance of using local sub-contractors and vendors as often as possible on the project,\u201d said Rutledge, \u201cChris made every effort to meet this request.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the event, special recognition was extended to DSU supporter Nan Sanders, and Margaret Ewing Thomas, daughter of former DSU President James Ewing.<\/p>\n<p>Special thanks were also extended to Delta State\u2019s Offices of Information Technology and Facilities Management for their input in every aspect of the
