CLEVELAND, Miss.\u2014<\/strong>Two Delta State University piano students recently earned honors during the Mississippi Music Teachers Association (MMTA) Collegiate Competitions.<\/p>\n

Cameron Sullivan<\/p><\/div>\n

The annual competition is designed to recognize and award talented college music students whose teachers are current members of the Mississippi Teachers National Association (MTNA) and the MMTA. The competition is divided into categories and divisions regarding age, instrumentation and genre.<\/p>\n

Cameron Sullivan, a sophomore piano performance major from Ama, La., won second place in the freshman\/sophomore solo piano division.<\/p>\n

Yeim Kim, a senior from Seoul, South Korea, double-majoring in piano performance and music education, won first place in the junior\/senior solo piano division.<\/p>\n

Sullivan and Kim are both students of Dr. Jung-Won Shin, associate professor of music.<\/p>\n

The duo was also featured during the DSU Department of Music\u2019s virtual Student Showcase, hosted April 19.<\/p>\n

Founded in 1954, MMTA is the state branch of the MTNA, one of the preeminent organizations for music teachers, performers and scholars in the United States. Members include music faculty from the state\u2019s universities and community colleges, pre-college music teachers, students and independent musicians.<\/p>\n

The purpose and goals of the MMTA are to further the art of music and promote the growth and professional development of its members by providing programs that encourage and support teaching, performance, composition and research.<\/p>\n
