{"id":87618,"date":"2021-04-01T18:27:45","date_gmt":"2021-04-01T23:27:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/?p=87618"},"modified":"2021-04-01T18:27:45","modified_gmt":"2021-04-01T23:27:45","slug":"delta-states-career-services-to-host-young-professionals-conference-april-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2021\/04\/delta-states-career-services-to-host-young-professionals-conference-april-7\/","title":{"rendered":"Delta State\u2019s Career Services to host Young Professionals\u2019 Conference April 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>CLEVELAND, Miss.\u2014<\/strong> Delta State University\u2019s Office of Career Services is continuing its efforts to ensure students and alumni are prepared both academically and professionally once they graduate through its Young Professionals\u2019 Conference (YPC).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Slated from 1 to 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, the half-day, virtual conference is designed to help develop, cultivate and enhance soft skills that are essential for career success.<\/p>\n<p>Topics for this year\u2019s event include: \u201cDiversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace &amp; the New Face of Professionalism\u201d; \u201cThe Young Entrepreneur\u201d; and \u201cPassport to Success,\u201d which will provide insight on Linkedin, the Statesmen Connect and preparing for virtual interviews.<\/p>\n<p>Free professional headshots will also be offered on the third floor of the H. L. Nowell Student Union as part of the event.<\/p>\n<p>Director of Career Services Nakikke K. Wallace Johnson said she developed the concept for the conference in 2019 after receiving feedback from employers interested in recruiting students for internships and jobs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents learn many things while in the classroom here at Delta State. However, we see common trends in career development where although prepared academically, our students need professional development which happens in the \u2018career\u2019 classroom,\u201d Wallace explained.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Wallace said she also sought to consolidate the information made available to students through multiple individual workshops throughout the academic year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCombining all of this information, we developed the concept of a free one-day conference where those who attend could\u00a0learn tips and develop skills to help them along their young professional journey,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year the conference is virtual and our target audience includes current DSU students faculty, staff and alumni.
