{"id":87099,"date":"2020-12-10T16:22:21","date_gmt":"2020-12-10T22:22:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/?p=87099"},"modified":"2020-12-10T16:22:21","modified_gmt":"2020-12-10T22:22:21","slug":"dsu-staff-council-continues-support-of-local-community-with-holiday-drives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2020\/12\/dsu-staff-council-continues-support-of-local-community-with-holiday-drives\/","title":{"rendered":"DSU Staff Council continues support of local community with holiday drives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Delta State University community embraced the holiday spirit by supporting the DSU Administrative Staff Council\u2019s annual food and toy drives.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The DSU Feed-A-Family Food Drive is held each year in the weeks leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday while the DSU Holiday Toy Drive collects gifts for children from infancy up to 10-years-old during the Christmas season.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_87101\" style=\"width: 423px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-87101\" class=\" wp-image-87101\" src=\"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/12\/Drives_2-490x430.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"413\" height=\"362\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/12\/Drives_2-490x430.jpg 490w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/12\/Drives_2-137x120.jpg 137w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/12\/Drives_2.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 413px) 100vw, 413px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-87101\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This year, the DSU Staff Council the Staff Council donated 50 Thanksgiving food bags and 266 toys to the Bolivar County Child and Family Services<\/p><\/div>\n<p>With support from the DSU community, this year the Staff Council donated 50 complete Thanksgiving food bags and 266 toys to the Bolivar County Child and Family Services.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the organization was able to make a food donation to the Statesmen Food Pantry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This holiday season, Staff Council was proud to continue the Thanksgiving Feed-a-Family Program and Holiday Toy Drive,\u201d said Dr. Tricia Killebrew, chair of the Staff Council\u2019s Project Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Traditionally hosted as separate projects, this year\u2019s drives were combined due to the shortened fall semester and remote work schedules, Killebrew said.<\/p>\n<p>From Nov. 2 through Nov. 18, individuals were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and toys valued at $5 or more to specified drop-off locations across campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInitially, we were concerned that we may not receive as many donations due to combining the projects.
