Smith School of Nursing has received a clean bill of health from the nation\u2019s top nursing accreditation body, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The CCNE Board of Commissioners recently granted 10 years of continued accreditation for all DSU nursing programs, including the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Post-Graduate Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).<\/p>\n<p>The agency granted the award following a review performed by CCNE site visitors March 2-4, 2020. Smith School of Nursing work diligently to provide our students with the knowledge and competencies needed to deliver safe, competent care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bingham said receiving continued accreditation from CCNE affirms the quality of the nursing programs offered at DSU.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile an accreditation review is stressful, it is extremely important to ensure that the School of Nursing is maintaining quality nursing programs to meet the healthcare needs of the populations,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The CCNE is the nation\u2019s leading autonomous accrediting agency for baccalaureate, graduate, and residency programs in nursing. It is officially recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a national accreditation agency that contributes to the improvement of the public\u2019s health by assessing and identifying programs that engage in effective educational practices.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to ensuring that nursing programs adequately prepare individuals for professional practice, the CCNE encourages ongoing self-assessment, and supports continuing growth and improvement of the programs through planning and resource development, peer review, enhanced teaching and learning assessment, and other means.<\/p>\n<p>DSU\u2019s Robert E.
