In addition to celebrating the rich history of Hispanic Americans, the poetry reading is also part of the Division of Languages and Literature\u2019s ongoing visiting writers program and is the first in the Division\u2019s new “DA Reading Series,” a namesake of DSU\u2019s student literary magazine,\u201cDa\u201d.<\/p>\n

Salazar is a Latinx poet and librarian from Mississippi. He’s the author of the forthcoming work, \u201cHeadless John the Baptist Hitchhiking,\u201d set to be released in 2022. He has also authored three chapbooks\u2014”American Cavewall Sonnets,\u201d \u201cForty Stitches Sewing a Body Against a Ramshackle Night\u201d and \u201cThis Might Have Meant Fire.\u201d<\/p>\n
When describing Salazar\u2019s latest work, Animal Heart Press stated, \u201cIf you already know the poetry of C.T. Salazar, you will not be surprised when reading \u2018Forty Stitches Sewing a Body Against a Ramshackle Night\u2019 that he can create entire worlds in a few lines. Salazar is the 2020 recipient of the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters award in poetry.<\/p>\n
