LaForge, who led the commencement activities, congratulated the graduates for reaching a \u201cmilestone,\u201d he said, \u201cthat, frankly, few people achieve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A morning session honored undergraduate students from the Robert E. Smith School of Nursing and all graduate students. On a more serious note, he leads rounds of applause not only for the graduates but also for their families.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Keynote speaker Dr. Corlis Snow, associate professor of teacher education and recipient last spring of the 2019 S. E. Kossman Teaching Award, the highest distinction a faculty member may be accorded at Delta State, challenged the new graduates to adopt what she called a \u201cgrowth mindset,\u201d as opposed to a \u201cfixed mindset,\u201d in a constantly evolving world.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_85368\" style=\"width: 456px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-85368\" class=\" wp-image-85368\" src=\"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/corlis-snow_-645x430.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"446\" height=\"297\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/corlis-snow_-645x430.jpg 645w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/corlis-snow_-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/corlis-snow_-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/corlis-snow_-180x120.jpg 180w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 446px) 100vw, 446px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-85368\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u201cAlways give your best and ponder what you could have done better,\u201d urges Dr. Snow, a DSU alumna.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This is vital to \u201cmaintain relevance in the professions you\u2019ve chosen,\u201d said the 18-year veteran in the Division of Teacher Education, Leadership, and Research at Delta State. After all, things have changed dramatically since the students\u2019 first semester at DSU, she added.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a DSU tradition that the Kossman Award winner from the previous spring commencement address graduates at the following fall commencement.<\/p>\n<p>Subject to completion of all requirements as certified by the registrar, the 347 total degrees at the 93<sup>rd<\/sup> commencement broke down as follows:<\/p>\n<p>The 220 undergraduate degrees: College of Arts and Sciences, 81; College of Business and Aviation, 56; College of Education and Human Sciences, 49; School of Nursing, 34.<\/p>\n<p>The 127 graduate degrees: College of Education and Human Sciences, 60; College of Business and Aviation, 45;
