Senior Michael Zarske and sophomore Katelyn Tramel are the latest Delta State students to earn the distinction.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to thank my professor, Dr. Nina Baghai-Riding, professor of biology and environmental science, for letting me and my classmates know about the scholarship and pushing all of us to apply for it,\u201d said Zarske, who hails from Gulfport, Miss., and also is pursuing a wildlife management concentration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDelta Sate offers true opportunities for students like me to work very closely with professors, and I appreciate the time they dedicate to our success,\u201d said Tramel, who is from Grenada. \u201cI am particularly thankful to Dr. Baghai-Riding; Dr. AHM Reza, associate professor of biology; and Dr. James Gerald, associate professor of physics, for encouraging me to apply for this award and writing a letter of recommendation.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_85318\" style=\"width: 333px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-85318\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-85318\" src=\"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/Katelyn-Tramel-e1575674121587-323x430.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"323\" height=\"430\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/Katelyn-Tramel-e1575674121587-323x430.jpeg 323w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/Katelyn-Tramel-e1575674121587-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/Katelyn-Tramel-e1575674121587-90x120.jpeg 90w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 323px) 100vw, 323px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-85318\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Katelyn Tramel<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Applicants were judged on grade point average, leadership qualities, financial need, and letters of reference, among other criteria. The scholarship is for juniors, seniors, and graduate students enrolled in a college or university in Mississippi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited about their achievements,\u201d said Dr. Baghai-Riding. \u201cI\u2019ve worked with both of them on a number of projects, and I\u2019m always impressed by their efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several other Delta State environmental science students have received MACD scholarships in the past including Christine Beck, Emily Bodin, Bobby Horne, and Autumn Hanson.<\/p>\n<p>Established in 1945, MACD is a non-profit, non-governmental organization comprised of the state\u2019s 82 soil and water conservation districts.
