On Thursday, Oct. 24, the Bologna Performing Arts Center (BPAC) at Delta State will host its first matinee performance of the Read It, See It, Hear It, Be It literacy initiative for the 2019-20 school year. The program provides reduced-price books on which School-Time Matinee Series performances are based to students attending the shows and provides free workshops for select grade levels in attendance.<\/p>\n

The BPAC will present a 9:30 and 11:30 AM performance of Dallas Children\u2019s Theatre\u2019s Miss Nelson Has a Field Day<\/em>, with more than 1,500 students currently attending. Programming partner GRAMMY Museum\u00ae Mississippi will host two workshops for students at Ruleville Central Elementary and Bell Academy in conjunction with the performance. GRAMMY Museum\u00ae Mississippi teaching artists will show how different players in the music industry pull together to put out Grammy-winning albums, just like the players in the performance pull together to win the big game in Miss Nelson Has a Field Day<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In addition to the workshops and along with financial partners at the Delta Arts Alliance, the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi and the King\u2019s Daughters and Sons Circle No. Two, \u00a0BPAC sold out of its paperback copies of Miss Nelson Has a Field Day<\/em>, priced at only $1 each as part of the literacy initiative. By the end of the school year, BPAC aims to distribute 3,000 reduced-price books to children attending the School-Time Matinee Series performances.<\/p>\n
