{"id":84168,"date":"2019-08-08T15:18:10","date_gmt":"2019-08-08T20:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/?p=84168"},"modified":"2019-09-13T10:47:04","modified_gmt":"2019-09-13T15:47:04","slug":"the-work-of-14-dsu-biology-and-environmental-science-students-presented-at-botanical-society-of-america-conference-in-tucson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2019\/08\/the-work-of-14-dsu-biology-and-environmental-science-students-presented-at-botanical-society-of-america-conference-in-tucson\/","title":{"rendered":"The Work of 14 DSU Biology and Environmental Science Students Presented at Botanical Society of America Conference in Tucson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Nina Baghai-Riding, professor of biology and environmental science at Delta State University, presented three scientific posters that were created by 14 students in her spring 2019 Plant Anatomy course at the Botanical Society of America conference, held in Tucson, Ariz., July 27-31.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The presentations focused on three local winter plant weeds that grow in the Mississippi Delta: \u201ccleavers\u201d (<em>Galium aparine<\/em>), purple deadnettle (<em>Lamium purpureum<\/em>), and hairy buttercup (<em>Ranunculus sardous<\/em>):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cA Preliminary Anatomical Study of <em>Galium aparine<\/em> (Rubiance)\u201d by William Neal, Pamela Bellamy, Huntley Brewer, Abi Gibson, and Tristan Moseley<\/li>\n<li>\u201cA Preliminary Plant Anatomical Study of <em>Lamium purpureum L.<\/em> (Lamiaceae)\u201d by Allison Hardin, Kaley Eldred, Madisyn Sheraka, Michael Zarske, and Morgan Welch<\/li>\n<li>\u201cAnatomical features of <em>Ranunculus sardous<\/em>\u201d by Nancy Amaro, Bria Goodson, Takayla Pratt, and Tamara Sly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Baghai-Riding also presented a poster, created with Delta State Archivist Emily Jones \u201999, titled, \u201cHonoring Henry Judson Jacob,\u201d a former Delta State dean, for his contributions to the DSU herbarium.
