Delta State University\u2019s Nutrition and Dietetics Program earned two awards at the Mississippi Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics\u2019 annual conference in Pearl in late March.<\/p>\n
Dr. Ensley Howell, director of the coordinated program in nutrition and dietetics and an associate professor in the College of Education and Human Sciences and the Division of Family and Consumer Sciences, won the 2019 Outstanding Dietetics Educator of the Year Award.<\/p>\n
Dietetic intern Anna Myers, a senior in the coordinated program in nutrition and dietetics, won the 2019 Outstanding Dietetics Student of the Year Award.<\/p>\n
Howell\u2014who hails from Pontotoc, earned a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from Ole Miss, and came to Delta State in 2012 after more than 30 years at hospitals and nursing homes and other universities\u2014said the honor belongs to her DSU colleagues as much as herself. \u201cWorking with the coordinated program and students has been one of the most rewarding jobs of my career,\u201d she said. \u201cThe dietetic interns are hard-working and a pleasure to work with.\u201d<\/p>\n
Myers, who comes from Philadelphia, Miss., said of her commendation, \u201cI have grown to love my teachers and classmates very much. I have also enjoyed dedicating my time to serving others. I am also thankful for my mother, who always encourages me to give my best.\u201d<\/p>\n
Interim Chair of Family and Consumer Sciences Dr. Sally Zengaro added, \u201cI am extremely proud of Dr. Howell. Her dedication to students and their education has made her an invaluable colleague. She is well-deserving of this honor, and DSU is fortunate to have her on the faculty.\u201d<\/p>\n
Howell said of Myers, \u201cWhenever volunteers are needed, Anna is one of the first to show up. She is dedicated to her studies and always has a smile on her face.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
