{"id":83398,"date":"2019-04-12T13:48:22","date_gmt":"2019-04-12T18:48:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/?p=83398"},"modified":"2019-04-12T13:48:22","modified_gmt":"2019-04-12T18:48:22","slug":"delta-state-university-earns-military-friendly-designation-for-third-straight-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2019\/04\/delta-state-university-earns-military-friendly-designation-for-third-straight-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Delta State University Earns Military Friendly\u00ae Designation for Third Straight Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Delta State University\u2019s efforts to make campus inviting to armed military service members resulted in the third consecutive year for its designation as a Military Friendly\u00ae School.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>That made sense to junior business major William Alderman, who served four years in the Marines, achieving the rank of corporal, before enrolling at DSU. \u201cIt\u2019s a welcoming environment, and we have a good VA representative,\u201d said Alderman, whose stations included Japan, South Korea, Spain, and Djibouti as well as stateside in Jacksonville, N.C., and the southern U.S. border, and whose wife, Hailey, also attends DSU for her master\u2019s in counseling.<\/p>\n<p>In 2003, Military Friendly\u00ae, a trademark of veteran-owned business VIQTORY, began spotlighting colleges, universities, and companies that engage, educate, and employ service members.<\/p>\n<p>Rankings for colleges and universities came from assessing public data (degree transfer, advancement, graduation and\/or job placement) and proprietary data gathered from schools that participated in surveys conducted by the company.<\/p>\n<p>Delta State met all the benchmark standards, including academic policies and compliance, admission and orientation, culture and commitment, financial aid and assistance, graduation and career as well as military student support and retention.<\/p>\n<p>Charles A.
