{"id":83358,"date":"2019-04-10T13:19:58","date_gmt":"2019-04-10T18:19:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/?p=83358"},"modified":"2019-04-10T17:11:59","modified_gmt":"2019-04-10T22:11:59","slug":"83358","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2019\/04\/83358\/","title":{"rendered":"DMI Earns Education Partner Award from GRAMMY Museum\u00ae Mississippi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Delta State University\u2019s Delta Music Institute (DMI) received the Education Partner Award from GRAMMY Museum<sup>\u00ae <\/sup>Mississippi on April 9, 2019, during an evening ceremony at the museum to recognize several outstanding volunteers.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDelta Music Institute is in the business of giving,\u201d said GRAMMY Museum\u00ae Mississippi Executive Director Emily Havens, \u201cnot just for the sake of giving alone, but with the purpose of advancing the mission and vision of our museum to promote music education by educating and inspiring the next generation of American music innovators.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The GRAMMY Museum\u00ae Mississippi press release about the awards summarized some of that mission and vision: \u201cproviding unique learning opportunities based on the enduring legacies of all forms of music, the entire creative and technological processes of recording, and the history of the Grammy Awards with a focus on the continuing achievements of Mississippians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DMI Director Tricia Walker, who accepted the award and whose name is also on it, said, \u201cI\u2019m honored to receive this award and want to acknowledge the entire DMI team that contributes so much each year in the way they offer their gifts and talents in service to music education within the museum\u2019s programming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The celebration occurred during National Volunteers Week.
