{"id":790,"date":"2008-06-02T10:22:28","date_gmt":"2008-06-02T10:22:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2008\/06\/02\/delta-state-to-host-the-2008-mississippi-summer-arts-institute\/"},"modified":"2013-09-03T12:55:41","modified_gmt":"2013-09-03T12:55:41","slug":"delta-state-to-host-the-2008-mississippi-summer-arts-institute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2008\/06\/delta-state-to-host-the-2008-mississippi-summer-arts-institute\/","title":{"rendered":"Delta State to host  the 2008 Mississippi Summer Arts Institute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font size=\"2\">Delta State University and the Bologna Performing Arts Center team up each year to offer a variety of artistic activities for youth during the summer through the Mississippi Janice Wyatt Summer Arts Institute that was established in 1998. <\/font><\/p>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span>Summer Arts offers opportunity in dance, theatre, music-instrumental and vocal, visual and literary arts and boasts a distinguished body of faculty with international recognition.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span>MSAI serves participants 12-18 years of age who are interested in attending an arts-based summer camp. Three series are available to participate in: Creative Artists&rsquo; Theatre, Core Arts Series, and Broadway Theatre Series.&nbsp; <\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><strong><span>Broadway Musical<\/span><\/strong><span> (June 1-28) <\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span>The Broadway Musical offers dedicated, talented young actors the opportunity to engage in professional, focused training for four intense weeks realizing their success in a first-class Broadway production.&nbsp; With a strong focus on teamwork, the program emphasizes personal growth through the acquisition of foundational skills in acting, scene study, voice, movement and musicality.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span>This year&rsquo;s Broadway musical production,&rdquo; Annie, Jr.,&rdquo; tells the tale of Annie, an orphan determined to find her parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage run by the embittered Miss Hannigan.&nbsp; In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan&#8217;s evil plans; befriends President Franklin Roosevelt; and finds a new family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.&nbsp; <\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span>Its upbeat plot and flamboyant characters have made Annie one of the most beloved musicals in history.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><strong><span>Creative Artists&rsquo; Theatre<\/span><\/strong><span> (June 1-8) &ndash; This segment is full and no more applications will be accepted.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span>The Mississippi Summer Arts Institute presents a segment for participants to experience a high energy, multi-faceted arts based production.&nbsp; Yearly, there is a different experience: from &ldquo;Squonk, to Commedia del&rsquo;Arte&rdquo;, to film, dance, and music workshops.&nbsp; The 2008 Creative Artists&rsquo; Theatre segment will feature Dance Theatre of Huntsville.&nbsp; Monique Ryan is the Executive Director of the Dance Theatre of Huntsville.&nbsp; Her choreography and style have been enjoyed by several audiences throughout the nation as well as North Alabama.&nbsp; Students will participate in a week-long extensive training in dance theatre, which will culminate in a public sharing of scenes the student ensemble has created.&nbsp; <\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><strong><span>Core Arts<\/span><\/strong><span> (June 8-21) &#8211; deadline to enroll is May 23.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span>Core Arts participants receive wide-ranging and intensive instruction in a variety of art forms.&nbsp; MSAI courses offer a tremendous opportunity for individual instruction, with a teacher-student ration of approximately 1:10.&nbsp; Core Arts exist to promote the artistic and creative abilities of individuals.&nbsp; Opportunities to take dance, vocal and instrumental music, visual and literary arts, and acting classes are offered in a six-period per day format.&nbsp;
