The Office of Student Affairs recently released its inaugural list of\u00a0Statesman Emerald Award of Excellence winners.<\/p>\n
The awards were part of the 2017 Men\u2019s Conference at Delta State University. The conference, along with the\u00a02017 Women\u2019s Conference in March, were instituted by\u00a0Dr. Vernell Bennett, vice president for Student Affairs.<\/p>\n
“These awards do a great job of recognizing green and white excellence because they reflect the students\u2019 voice,” said Bennett. “The students are the reason we\u2019re here, so their opinion is paramount. The fact that students identify the winners makes the faculty, staff and administrative nominations and winners that much more special. That sort of recognition speaks to how much the students value and appreciate them.”<\/p>\n
Bennett said the men’s and women’s conferences educate, uplift and train students to become strong leaders and stewards of the institution and its local community.<\/p>\n
“The tutelage, professional development and collaborations that the conferences provide cultivate and improves our students\u2019 skill sets and prepare them for their professional lives beyond DSU,” she said.<\/p>\n
This year’s\u00a0Statesman Emerald Award of Excellence winners, which recognized male students, faculty and staff, included:<\/p>\n
Top Student Leader Top<\/strong> International Student Most Spirited<\/strong> Top Resident Assistant<\/strong> Most Talented<\/strong> Top Housing Staff<\/strong> Top Organization President<\/strong> Top Fan Community Service Award Statesman Advocate Award Top Interfraternity Council Fraternity Top National Panhellenic Council Fraternity Athletics Top Administrator Top Director Award Top Faculty Award Top Male Staff College of Education Human Sciences<\/strong>\u00a0Top Scholar College of Business and Aviation Top Scholar College of Arts and Sciences\u00a0<\/strong>Top Scholar Robert E. Smith School of Nursing\u00a0<\/strong>Top Scholar The Women\u2019s Conference is held each spring and the Men\u2019s Conference is held each fall. The Emerald Awards of Excellence are held for both conferences. Students submit nominations in person and online.
