{"id":72580,"date":"2016-10-27T13:26:55","date_gmt":"2016-10-27T18:26:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/?p=72580"},"modified":"2016-10-27T13:26:55","modified_gmt":"2016-10-27T18:26:55","slug":"mas-git-students-faculty-represent-dsu-state-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2016\/10\/mas-git-students-faculty-represent-dsu-state-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"MAS-GIT students and faculty represent DSU at state conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Yongqin Zhang, assistant professor and director of the MAS-GIT program in the Department of Biological Sciences, and three MAS-GIT students recently gave presentations at the fourth Mississippi Geospatial Conference held at Long Beach on Oct. 20 and 21.<\/p>\n<p>MAS-GIT student Kory Iman received the student poster award.\u00a0 His research, \u201cA Geospatial Method to Develop Infrastructure of Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations,\u201d demonstrated the geospatial applications in transportation analysis.\u00a0 He used multi-factor analysis to identify optimal locations for installing EV charging stations for the walking public, and gave the government some spatial considerations and guidance for transportation planning.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_72583\" style=\"width: 172px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/10\/pres3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72583\" class=\"wp-image-72583 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/10\/pres3.jpg\" alt=\"pres3\" width=\"162\" height=\"162\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/10\/pres3.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/10\/pres3-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/10\/pres3-75x75.jpg 75w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/10\/pres3-180x180.jpg 180w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/10\/pres3-120x120.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 162px) 100vw, 162px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-72583\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kory Iman<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Iman was not able to show up in the conference due to a training session in Washington D.C. Dr. Zhang brought the award of a $50 check back on behalf of Iman.<\/p>\n<p>The other two MAS-GIT students Aaron Francois and Christopher Phillips gave presentations titled \u201cStudy of the Zika Virus using Disease Mapping and Ecological Niche Models\u201d and \u201cDetermining Species of Greatest Conservation Need Occurrence in the Yazoo River Drainage, Mississippi,&#8221; respectively. Dr. Zhang gave a presentation titled \u201cInvestigating the Impacts of Hydraulic Fracturing on Natural Gas Production and Vegetation Change through Remote Sensing.&#8221; Their research utilizes GIS and remote sensing technologies in vegetation and natural gas production analysis, mosquito disease mapping and modeling, and fish species and habitat analysis.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_72582\" style=\"width: 261px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/10\/pres2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72582\" class=\"wp-image-72582 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/10\/pres2-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"pres2\" width=\"251\" height=\"157\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/10\/pres2-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/10\/pres2-359x225.jpg 359w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/10\/pres2-75x47.jpg 75w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/10\/pres2-192x120.jpg 192w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/10\/pres2.jpg 616w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 251px) 100vw, 251px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-72582\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Zhang<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cAs the advisor, I am so proud of these MAS-GIT students for their excellent research ability and motivation in applied research using GIT. All of them represented DSU so well.
