{"id":71310,"date":"2016-08-16T06:58:18","date_gmt":"2016-08-16T11:58:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/?p=71310"},"modified":"2016-08-16T06:58:18","modified_gmt":"2016-08-16T11:58:18","slug":"delta-leadership-institute-completes-2015-16-executive-academy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2016\/08\/delta-leadership-institute-completes-2015-16-executive-academy\/","title":{"rendered":"Delta Leadership Institute completes 2015-16 Executive Academy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Fifty community leaders have successfully completed the year-long Delta Leadership Institute Executive Academy, a program of the Delta Regional Authority. The Executive Academy is a training program that brings together business and community leaders from each of the eight states of the Mississippi River Delta and Alabama Black Belt regions for a collaborative leadership development experience, emphasizing regional approaches to growing local economies and creating opportunities for the people of the Delta region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Each graduate completed leadership development coursework and field studies in the year-long program that included five sessions in Delta communities and one session in Washington, D.C.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Seven DLI fellows, nominated by Governor Phil Bryant and DRA federal co-chairman Chris Masingill, represented Mississippi this year:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8211; Amanda Allen of Delta Regional Authority, Clarksdale<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">&#8211; Tracy Ausberry of Delta Regional Authority, Clarksdale<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">&#8211; Joshua Bower of Mississippi Community College Board, Jackson<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">&#8211; Dr. Rolando Herts of Delta State University, Cleveland<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">&#8211; Shellie Michael of Mississippi Minority Business Alliance, Jackson<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">&#8211; Lane Riley of Delta Hands for Hope, Shaw<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">&#8211; Jessie Whitley of the City of Greenville<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">&#8211; Jessie Whitley of Greenville<a href=\"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/08\/001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-71315 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/08\/001-300x204.jpg\" alt=\"001\" width=\"300\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/08\/001-300x204.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/08\/001-768x523.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/08\/001-330x225.jpg 330w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/08\/001-75x51.jpg 75w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/08\/001-176x120.jpg 176w, https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/08\/001.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cFor our communities to grow and support strong economies that create opportunities for Delta residents, we need local leaders that understand the local and regional challenges that we face, as well as the networks and resources that can help identify solutions and address these challenges,\u201d\u00a0Masingill said. \u201cThe Delta Leadership Institute\u2019s dynamic programming and ever-growing alumni network are helping to meet this need and empower our region\u2019s leaders to make the Delta a better place to live and work.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In addition to the program certificate, participants graduate with an industry-recognized certification in Crucial Conversations. Present for the ceremony were Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson Masingill, alternate federal co-chairman Mike Marshall, and Alice Perry, Gov. Bryant\u2019s senior policy advisor and designee to the DRA board.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Gov. Bryant said, \u201cI am grateful to DRA for cultivating leadership that will strengthen Mississippi, and I thank the graduates for taking an active role in improving their communities. Being from the Delta, I appreciate the importance of leadership for this region of our state.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The DRA is a federal-state partnership created by Congress in 2000 to help create jobs, build communities, and improve lives through strategic investments in economic development in 252 counties and parishes across eight states.
