{"id":70156,"date":"2016-04-25T14:54:19","date_gmt":"2016-04-25T19:54:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/?p=70156"},"modified":"2016-04-26T14:41:31","modified_gmt":"2016-04-26T19:41:31","slug":"phi-alpha-theta-welcomes-new-members","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2016\/04\/phi-alpha-theta-welcomes-new-members\/","title":{"rendered":"Phi Alpha Theta welcomes new members"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The College of Arts and Sciences at Delta State University inducted eight new members to the Phi Alpha Theta International Honor Society today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s inductees\u00a0included:\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">Alexis Danielle Banks, Laura Kate Fortner, Dylan Garrett, Wesley Rippee, Matthew Riggins, Kaelin Kneeland, Brenton King, and Katherine Jackson.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Charles Westmoreland, assistant professor of history and Phi Alpha Theta advisor, inducted the new members and award certificates.<\/p>\n<p>Phi Alpha Theta\u00a0is an\u00a0American honor society for\u00a0undergraduate and\u00a0graduate students and\u00a0professors of\u00a0history. The society has over 350,000 members, with about 9,500 new members joining each year through 860 local chapters.<\/p>\n<p>The organization\u00a0was established on March 17, 1921 at the\u00a0University of Arkansas by professor\u00a0Nels Cleven.
