{"id":69789,"date":"2016-03-31T08:33:54","date_gmt":"2016-03-31T13:33:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/?p=69789"},"modified":"2016-03-31T11:21:20","modified_gmt":"2016-03-31T16:21:20","slug":"advising-champions-boost-student-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2016\/03\/advising-champions-boost-student-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Advising Champions boost student success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A group of Delta State faculty known as the Advising Champions are continuing their advising efforts dedicated to the development of a streamlined campus-wide advising process.<\/p>\n<p>Each Advising Champion is a faculty member who is recognized as an effective academic advisor and adopts the tenets of Proactive Advising, an advising process that involves the use of proactive outreach and intervention to enable students to persist to graduation.<\/p>\n<p>The program operates under the envelope of\u00a0the Student Success Center and is run by Student Success Advisor Darla Sisney.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEngaged, knowledgeable academic advising is critical to every student\u2019s success,\u201d said Sisney, quoting the Academic Advising Resource Guide. \u201cAdvising should consist of a continuous conversation between the student and his or her advisor, not merely sporadic sessions for choosing what courses to take.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen done well, academic advising aids every student to plan and implement a program of study consistent with their goals, interests and strengths.
